Whether the Chettiars should use their money to benefit the Indian labourers instead of the other communities is a matter of opinion. However, the rich and powerful Chinese community owe their early start in business to the ready and willing assistance extended by the Chettiars. It is quite true that many wealthy Chinese magnates owed a great debt to these Chettiars, for the latter extended initial capital to them, to enable them to start their business in tin and rubber.
