MENTORING PROGRAMME AIMED AT IMPROVING ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE OF INDIAN STUDENTS - DR SUBRAMANIAM
PUTRAJAYA -- The 2016 Mentor Mentee Programme aims to improve academic performance of Indian students who are low achievers through the guidance of Indian students who are in higher learning institutions (IPT).
MIC president Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam who is also the Health Minister said for a start, 500 Form Four and Five students from seven schools in Selangor will participate in the programme which will be extended throughout the peninsula.
"We also expect the participation of as many Indian students as possible from IPT to voluntarily become mentors and so far about 200 have come forward.
"Those who have been successful can provide guidance and support all aspects to ensure these students achieve optimum results," he told reporters after launching the programme, here Thursday.
Dr Subramaniam said many students who are weak in their studies come from poor or problematic families and are at high risk of becoming involved in social ills.
"We want to focus on this group because otherwise, they can be a source of various issues in the future. If there is to be a solution to these issues, we must start from the schools," he said.
